REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS AND EMISSION TRADE SYSTEM
Inci AKIN - March 2023
Abstract:
The climate crisis is a global problem that requires collective action. One of the most fundamental reasons for this problem is undoubtedly the emission of human-induced greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. There are many attempts to solve the problem and initiatives at the bilateral, regional and global level all over the world with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. In the first part of this study, the most important international steps taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, European Green Deal, European Climate Law and Fit for 55 are examined. In the second part of our study, carbon pricing methods, carbon markets, emission trading system in general and the European Union, which is Turkey's most important export market, carbon adjustment mechanism set up in order to prevent carbon leakage and Turkish legislation regarding carbon markets are discussed.
